Avalon was the idyllic and mythical forest where apples grew by themselves and the rolling green fields produced crops without human intervention. It is in keeping with this rich Avalon history that this golf course has been masterfully carved out of the lush, forested central plateau of Mauritius by internationally renowned golf course architect and former European Tour professional, Peter Matkovich. Situated on the volcanic slopes of the dormant Grand Bassin volcano at 500 m above sea level and surrounded by tea plantations, Avalon is the highest place to play golf in Mauritius. The views of the southern coast, the lagoon, and the azure Indian Ocean are simply unparalleled and, on a clear day, are visible from all 18 holes.
